About Professor Dame Sally Davies

 

Professor Dame Sally Davies was appointed Chief Medical Officer (CMO) in the UK in 2011, a post which she maintained until 2019 as the UK's first female CMO. Since then Dame Sally has held the post of Master of Trinity College Cambridge (also the first woman to hold this role) as well as acting as the UK's Special Envoy to Antimicrobial Resistance, continuing who work in the public health sector. Dame Sally was recognised with Fellowship of the Society for Applied Microbiology in 2019 for her invaluable work in the fight against antimicrobial resistance (AMR), particularly in bringing forward the importance of control in both the human and veterinary spheres. Dame Sally has been a key figure in the global fight against AMR. She has spoken on AMR at a variety of events including the World Health Assembly side events, the G8 science ministers’ meeting in 2015, the Global Health Security Initiative in 2015, and the UN General Assembly side event in 2016.
