SfAM response to Government proposal for FWE services

The Society for Applied Microbiology responded to the UK Government Health Protection Agency's (HPA) consultation document: Development of a National Network for the Delivery of Food, Water and Environmental (FW&E) Microbiology Services.

The proposed reduction in the total number of FW&E laboratories over two years from 26 down to 14 will consolidate funding and expertise. However, caution is needed to ensure expertise is not lost and that significant logistical issues do not occur. SfAM's response covers a number of points for consideration.
