SfAM's statement on the invasion of Ukraine

The Society of Applied Microbiology deplores the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, recognising that applied microbiology doesn’t observe geographical borders. We offer profound sympathy and support to all scientists who are affected by this war, as the current situation precludes their engagement in research and international collaboration.

We are in contact with our members who are directly impacted by the war in Ukraine to offer our support and identify ways in which we may be able to provide further assistance. We also wish to signpost our members to the initiatives #ScienceForUkraine and the EMBO Solidarity list.

As an organisation that focuses on health and wellbeing, we condemn the waste of life and destruction caused by the war in Ukraine. We will add our voice of support to those across the global scientific community in the hope that resolution can be achieved as quickly and peacefully as possible.
