Join SfAM's Policy Subcommittee
08 Feb 2019
We are looking for members to join the Society’s Policy Subcommittee. This is a fantastic opportunity to inform the Society’s science policy work during an exciting period in our 2018-21 strategy.
The Policy Subcommittee is responsible for directing the Society’s science policy and public affairs engagement through:
- Supporting and overseeing the work of SfAM policy staff
- Contributing to Society policy outputs (e.g. press releases, meetings, consultation responses, reports and briefings)
- Advising and making recommendations to the SfAM Executive Committee on matters relating to policy and public affairs
We would welcome applications from members who have an interest or experience in science policy, as well as science communications. In particular, we are seeking those with expertise in environmental microbiology and biotechnology.
The Society is committed to drawing on a wide range of knowledge and experience to achieve the best in our work. We therefore aim to increase the diversity within our committees to more effectively reflect our membership. For more information on the Society’s commitment to diversity and inclusion please see our position statement.
What we require
SfAM requires all Policy Subcommittee members to attend at least three meetings a year in person or remotely.
Due to the responsive nature of our policy work, Subcommittee members must be regularly accessible by email and willing to review documents on a timescale ranging from weeks to days. On average, we would require 1 hour of your time per week.
What we provide
This position provides an excellent opportunity to build your science policy experience and demonstrate your impact in areas outside of direct research. Joining an SfAM committee will also enable you to extend your network within the Society and beyond.
All reasonable travel or out of pocket expenses will be covered including any required carer or accessibility arrangements.
How to apply
To apply for a position, please send a CV and covering letter to firstname.lastname@example.org
Applications will be anonymised and reviewed by the Policy Subcommittee on the basis of current gaps in expertise.
