SfAM response to Government guidelines on M. tuberculosis infection

The Society for Applied Microbiology responded to the UK Department of Health's proposed laboratory guidelines for the diagnosis of Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection in September 2006. Our response focused on potential capacity issues for small clinical microbiology laboratories and the adoption of molecular fingerprinting of new isolates of M. tuberculosis as an important facet of molecular epidemiology.
